The 1-2 McMaster Marauders host the 1-1 York Lions Saturday at Ron Joyce Stadium.
The Marauders are coming off a 58-15 shellacking at the hands of the Western Mustangs last week. Injuries played a huge part in the loss, with defensive starters Joey Cupido and Mike Daly not dressing, then, during the game, defensive back Allan Dicks, linebacker Nick Shortill and Steven Dennis were also injured.
Offensively, the Marauders were without starting tackle Matt Sewell to start the game, then, receiver Mike DiCroce, along with slotbacks Declan Cross and Tyler Loveday, also were dinged up.
That makes nine starters that may not play in the game against York.
The Lions, after losing their season opener 52-1 to Queens, beat Laurier 33-20 last week. They’re led by quarterback Myles Gibbons, who, after two weeks, has completed 24-47 passes for 311 yards and two touchdowns. But, what Gibbons does very well, is run. He’s averaging 104 yards per rushing in two games; that average is the best in the OUA.
One big game key is the turnover battle. McMaster is -9 in turnovers, the most in the OUA, while York is even.
York has not beaten McMaster since 1997, which means a 13-game winning streak for the Marauders.
CHML broadcast time is 1 o’clock.
