You, under the charge of Laura Babcock leading the cheer, have a made a difference in this city in two ways.
Number one. You responded to a social media call to action to send her Tweets of ‘Welcome’ signs displayed outside of towns you had driven through this summer.
Babcock’s goal? Get a ‘Welcome to Hamilton’ sign or some sort of gate way for the city before the world comes knocking for the Pan Am Games.
Yes, it’s hard to believe we don’t have one when every other place does (even Stoney Creek!).
Would you buy a product on a store shelf without a label?
What’s amazing is back in 2001 $100,000 was allocated for this to study everything from location to message on the sign.
Nothing has been done.
When Babcock asked city council why they haven’t just put up the damn sign (My words not hers),
she was met with blanks faces, some which were there when this was originally brought up over a decade ago.
The ‘Welcome’ sign has merely exposed more of the same ol’ same ol’.
The second way you have made a difference.
You’ve sent a clear message, you’re onto them.
Hamilton has changed.
If they don’t want to drive the city, than you will, with your vote.
