Ontario’s Ombudsman has met with the family of Steve Mesic.
Andre Marin sat down with them this morning (Thursday) in Burlington one day after the province’s Special Investigations Unit ruled that there are no reasonable grounds to charge any Hamilton Police officer with a criminal offence in relation to the shooting death of the 45 year old.
Marin describes the meeting as “very moving”.
It’s part of the Ombudsman’s investigation into “de-escalation” in disputes involving police in Ontario.
Mesic was gunned down back in June, during a confrontation with officers in the area of the LINC and Upper Wentworth Street. The SIU has said that neither subject officer had a Taser and that pepper-spray was not an option due to the circumstances.
