It seems a few City Councilors have run out of patience with Integrity Commissioner Earl Basse.
He’s been chronicaly tardy in dealing with integrity complaints and now he’s months beyond a 60 day deadline to investigate a complaint against the Mayor.
Now Councilors are questioning whether or not they even have the right to impose such deadlines.
That makes me wonder why the question wasn’t raised by the City’s legal department back in the Spring when Council imposed the deadline.
But we’ve also discovered that the Integrity Commissioner is looking into three other complaints against City Councilors.
This entire process seems absurd to me.
Council gets to hire the person who is supposed to investigate allegations against Councilors.
They also get to set the rules on how and who can be investigated and if they don’t like the results they can vote to ignore them.
Heck, for that matter, they can fire the Integrity Commissioner if they’re not happy with his work.
For his part, the Integrity Commissioner seems to take his sweet time carrying out his work and why not, he gets paid by the hour .
This is what they call ‘Integrity’ ?
Shame on them for concocting this phoney integrity scheme; and shame on us for letting them do it.
