The Hamilton Bulldogs had the early lead but could not hold on against Abbotsford as the Heat picked up a 3-2 shootout win.
The Dogs jumped out to an early lead as Justin Courtnall scored his first of the season at 1:46 of the opening period.
Hamilton would take a 2-0 lead just minutes later as Martin St. Pierre scored on the power-play at 4:21. Beaulieu and Nygren picking up the assists on the goal.
After the first period Hamilton were out shooting the Heat 14-7
In the second period Abbotsford cut the lead in half as Blair Jones scored just 1:04 into the frame.
Jones would tie things up with his second goal of the game at 18:57 of the second with the assists going to MacKenzie and Reinhart.
With two periods in the books the score was tied at 2.
The third period saw both teams exchange opportunities but neither could find the back of the net.
Overtime did not solve anything either so it was off to the shootout.
Hamilton did not score on their first three attempts while the Heat converted all three of their shots to pick up the win.
The Dogs have not scored a goal in the three shootouts they have been involved in.
Next up for Hamilton is a road game against Rochester on Wednesday night.
