Some big changes are coming to the way the roads are plowed this winter in Hamilton.
They’ll be plowed right down to the pavement.
Up until now, residential roads were plowed until motorists were able to drive on hard snow pack.
But the city is spending about half-a-million dollars more on road clearing this winter.
The city’s director of operations says money will pay for extra workers, equipment and material.
Private snowplowing contractors will also undergo more screening and be required to immediately sign off on cleared routes.
The changes come after a blizzard last Boxing Day, when some side streets weren’t plowed for days.
However, you wont be able to keep track of the snowplows online to see when your street will be cleared.
They’re still working on getting GPS units in all the plows and that won’t be ready when the snow flies this year.
