The City of Hamilton may have a Farmers’ Market with no farmers.
A revolt is brewing amongst the market vendors who say they are ready to vacate their stalls if the city doesn’t do something big to reverse the drop off in business.
Stallholders say the opening of Nations Foods in Jackson Square is not considered the big problem, it is the lack of free validated parking on York Boulevard.
Some vendors say business is off by up to 50 per cent since market renovations were completed three years ago and they say the lack of free parking is the reason why.
Hamilton’s General Issues Committee will be asked next Wednesday to re-establish the free parking for market patrons.
