A Milton woman who forgot her grandson in a sweltering car this summer has received a suspended sentence plus two years of probation.
52-year-old Leslie MacDonald pleaded guilty to failing to provide the necessities of life.
MacDonald was also originally charged with criminal negligence causing death, but that charge was withdrawn.
She left 23-month-old Maximus Huyskens in the car in June when the temperature reached 30 Celsius.
She was supposed to take her grandson to daycare, but didn’t stop at the daycare, and drove to her own house, mistakenly thinking she had already dropped him off.
When she went to pick up Maximus at the daycare, she was told he never arrived, and it was only then she discovered the toddler dead in the back seat.
Paramedics were called, but by that time there was nothing they could do and it was determined the boy had died from hyperthermia.
