No surprise really that the hypocrisy over the Expense Accounts of Senators and MP’s continues.
Auditor General Micheal Ferguson wants to be able to do spot checks on how MP’s spend our money; given what we’ve discovered about the lavish spending of some Senators, it’s not a bad idea.
There’s even a Private Members Bill from an NDP MP demanding that MP’s be more accountable, but that Bill is more about political theatrics than sincerity.
It was just a few months ago that the NDP voted against a similar motion and , let’s face it, there’s nothing to lose by supporting more accountability when you know that the government won’t allow the Bill to pass.
MP’s of all Parties say that the current system, where MP’s basically police each other is working just fine; sure it is… for them !
Besides, they say, there’s no evidence of any abuse of the system.
Well of course there isn’t; we don’t get to see what they spend our money on.
And there was no evidence of wrong doing with Senators Duffy, Wallin ,Brazeau and Harb until some people started looking into it.
I think the Auditor General is bang on here.
It would be nice if accountability and transparency were guidelines instead of political buzz words.
