The latest jobs report by Stats Can shows the unemployment rate was on the rise in Hamilton during the month of June.
Job growth fell short of expectations across the country with the unemployment rate reaching 7.1 per cent.
In Hamilton the rate was even higher at 7.2 per cent due to Ontario taking a hard hit, losing nearly 34 thousand jobs.
Most of the job losses in the last month came in business, support services as well as agriculture and manufacturing.
Construction work was one of the only areas where employment opportunities increased, bringing in 32 thousand new jobs.
