Pan Am games security monitoring underway

Hamilton, ON, Canada / AM900 CHML

With less than a year to go before the Pan Am Games kickoff in the city, Hamilton Police and other law enforcement agencies have started to monitor security threats.

Both the OPP and Hamilton Police services report being in the planning stages for Pan Am security, actively working to gather intelligence and monitor potential threats.

Security consultant David Hyde says although Hamiltonians may not see much happening now, with security costs up to an estimated $239 million dollars, come game day, it will look quite different.

Hyde says there will be a cordon around the Pan Am stadium where security staff will require specific credentials, adding that as many as 150 homes could be impacted by the security hot zone.
