Mayor hopes transit meeting clears up province’s support

Hamilton, ON, Canada / AM900 CHML

The city’s rapid transit vision is back on the front burner.

Hamilton could have a better idea of what the plan for the future is, after a much anticipated meeting
tomorrow with Ontario’s new Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca.

Mayor Bob Bratina is among those who will be at the meeting and says while he isn’t expecting a cheque, he is hoping to hear a committment
from the now majority government which has committed tens of billions for transit projects over the next decade.

Ward 4 Councillor Sam Merulla has been vocally opposed to it being a closed door meeting, but the Mayor says that is not unusual at this stage of such a discussion.

  1. That the mayor has helped to contribute to that uncertainty has not helped matters. That Ward 4 Councillor Merulla, in another one of his many and varied snits is boycotting the meeting is equally unhelpful. Of course the complexities and intricacies around storing then re-storing the City Motel sign might also be weighing ever-so-heavily on the man’s mind.
