Last summer it was the Senate Expense Scandal, where we were shocked that public officials would take advantage of their position and spend our money for their own use.
Surely, they’ve all learned from that and not abuse their position right ?
Former Alberta Premier Alison Redford and her staff spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayers money on first class airfare and posh hotels .
Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell is in hot water because she racked up over $200,000 in questionable expenses.
And, don’t forget the Dirty Dozen MPP’s, including all of the Hamilton MPP’s, who stick us with the bill for about 20 grand each for Toronto apartments, even though Queens Park is only an hours drive from their Hamilton ridings.
And what do all of these elected officials have in common, beside the fact that they think our tax dollars are for their personal use ?
None of them think they’ve done anything wrong !
Redford stepped down as Premier , due to a huge backlash from Alberta voters, but she still pleads innocent to any misdoing.
Likewise, the Brampton Mayor and the Hamilton MPP’s have neither apologized or promised to curtail their spending habits.
Clearly, there’s a culture of entitlement with many elected officials and, as one veteran politician told me, they don’t think it’s a big deal because it’s been going on for years.
Maybe so, but that doesn’t make it right.
