Toronto Police thwart crime syndicate

Toronto police say a number of people have been arrested after multiple police raids this morning in Toronto, York Region and Niagara Region.

Police say more than 30 search warrants were executed as part of an investigation dubbed Project Yellowbird, focusing on break-ins at high-end homes.

Police Chief Bill Blair says those involved in the break-ins stole jewelry, electronics and luxury goods as well as high-value vehicles.

“I believe that when our investigators have concluded the tally of the property seized, the recovery of property in this investigation will be in the amounts of several million dollars, perhaps ten’s of millions of dollars,” Blair said during a press conference Thursday.

Heavily armed tactical officers were involved in the early-morning raids and police say “extremely significant amounts of property” were seized.

There’s no immediate word on charges.
