Hamilton politicians are trying to discourage the locating of “super mailboxes” within residential neighbourhoods.
They’ve passed a motion which aims to stop them from being placed on city road allowances, unless a range of health and safety concerns are addressed by Canada Post.
Terry Langley, acting president of the CUP-W local, says similar roadblocks have successfully delayed the scrapping of door-to-door mail delivery in Oakville.
Langley also believes Canada Post is now taking a second look at its controversial plan, which he adds has become a federal election issue.
Hamilton City Council had already gone on record as being opposed to Canada Post’s controversial plan to phase out door-to-door mail delivery.
