I have my day all planned out.
After putting in another hard day’s work here at CHML, I’m definitely going to have a nap this afternoon.
Despite smashing my alarm clock at 3am each morning, I don’t normally nap in the afternoon.
That’s just my thing.
But today, a nap is required, because tonight is one of my most favourite nights on the calendar.
It’s draft day baby.
And no, that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be watching the Kevin Costner movie “Draft Day,” which by the way, I think is the worst sports movie ever made.
No, round 1 of the 2016 NFL Draft is on tap tonight in Chicago.
Why do I love it so much?
We know the NFL is a marketing machine, and the league does a fantastic job of heralding the next crop of young stars.
I love watching the reactions of the players when they’re selected by an NFL team because for many they’ve realized a lifelong dream.
Seeing the expressions of players who fall down the draft board is also a draw for me.
I think of Aaron Rodgers, who dropped down to 24th overall in the 2005 draft.
But he got the last laugh six years later when he and the Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl.
Who that player is tonight is part of the thrill, and I can’t wait.
