A police dispatch to a disturbance quickly turned into a search after reports of a man with a handgun surfaced.
Hamilton Police responded to Saint Andrews Drive around noon Thursday to find a situation involving a number of people simmering down.
It was however suggested that a man was spotted with a handgun and walked away.
The man was located, stopped and arrested by police on Quigley Road in possession of a loaded handgun.
The firearm has been sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences.
The investigation into the firearm is now ongoing.
The 24 year old man from Hamilton faces a number of charges including carrying a concealed weapon, uttering threats to cause bodily harm and failure to comply with probation.
