The Ontario government has announced the details of a 155 million dollar commitment to hospice care over the next three years.
Two care facilities in Hamilton will benefit from the investment; Bob Kemp Hospice and Emmanuel house.
Each will receive 150 thousand additional dollars annually.
For Bob Kemp hospice the announcement is serendipitous as it celebrates its 10 year anniversary since breaking ground on Stone Church Road East.
The facility for compassionate end of care is now looking to the future and that means branching out.
“We have to raise fifty per cent of our budget through donations” said Clare Freeman, Executive Director of the hospice.
This will off set the stress on the community according to Freeman who will be using the funding to expand bereavement programs and outreach.
“So people know what services are out there for them once they’ve been diagnosed palliative and how they can really live the best quality of life until their last breath.”
17 end of life care facilities from across the province will benefit from this funding.
