Proposed expansion plans of the Taro landfill in upper Stoney Creek has the chair of the Hamilton Public School Board concerned.
Todd White say he only found about the plans a few days ago though the media.
He says the board is looking at using a piece property on northwest corner of First Road West and Green Mountain Road for a new school to be built by 2023.
It’s kitty corner to the landfill and White wants to make sure the board is kept in the information loop.
He says there are concerns that expansion may have a negative impact on the school staff and students.
He says they want to make sure the expansion plans don’t create problems such drainage, smell and increased truck traffic on area streets.
The expansion proposal will still need a full environmental assessment which will allow the school board, city, conservation authority, and other agencies to make formal comments to the province.
