NHL free agency opens at noon on Friday and the pre-free agent frenzy is, well, frenzied.
As GM’s look up and down their roster for the umpteenth time, and take stock of what they have coming up from the minors, they have some big decisions to make.
Which players do we target, how much can we afford to spend, will the player we want put us over the top, will they be a good teammate?
There are many more questions, but those are the conversations that are going on right now.
The biggest name in the free agent pool is Steven Stamkos.
The Tampa Bay forward is an elite player in the NHL that only a few teams will have a shot at signing come Friday.
The rebuilding Maple Leafs are certainly one of those teams.
Stamkos is from Markham, just north of TO, and many believe he’s on his way home.
But his projected price tag has Leafs fans worried.
Should the Buds spend upwards of 12-million, perhaps even more, on one player for the next decade?
That’s a huge chunk of a team’s 73-million dollar salary cap.
He’s 26, has averaged a goal every other game, and I think, would be worth every penny.
