This one was fun to watch.
Henrik Stenson is a first time major champion after holding off Phil Mickelson to win the British Open at Royal Troon.
Oops, sorry, the Open championship.
And the Swede did it in style by tying a major record with a 63 on Sunday.
The only other player to shoot a 63 in the final round of a major was Johnny Miller at Oakmont in 1973.
Stenson’s 264 also broke the total score record for a major tournament.
He and Lefty were really the only two golfers in contention when we woke up on Sunday and it was fun watching them go shot for shot.
I thought one of them would crack under the intense pressure, but neither of them did, which made the round that much more enthralling.
Stenson’s 50 foot birdie putt on 15 gave him a two shot lead and his 20 foot birdie putt on 18 was the punctuation mark.
And it left Mickelson a runner up at a major for the 11th time.
Now we go from Troon to the Abbey for the Canadian Open and hopefully another exciting tournament.
