I think I speak for thousands of Hamiltonians who are sick and tired of City Council’s dithering about the LRT issue.
We need more information, some of them say.
They’re just too spineless to take a stand on the issue.
Truth be told, they have all the information they need.
Yes, there will be an impact on traffic; you don’t need an engineering degree to figure that out !
Yes, we need more buses in other areas of the City, but Council has had a plan to do that for the last nine years, but they’ve dragged their heels on that plan too.
And, before we bestow sainthood on the four downtown Councilors who support LRT, let’s remember that the tracks will run right through all of their wards, creating significant infrastructure and economic development in their neighbourhoods.
Would they be as supportive if the proposed route was from the waterfront to the airport?
I think we all know the answer to that.
In fact, the only steadfast supporter of LRT who doesn’t really have any skin in the game is Ancaster Councilor Lloyd Ferguson, who has supported the project from Day One.
Most of the rest have mastered the skills of obfuscation and political self interest .
We need LRT, but we also need Councilors who are more interested in City building than career building.
