There is nothing better at building Canadian pride than watching your athletes stand at attention while our flag is raised and national anthem played.
Before every Olympics we hear of the pitfalls and obstacles threatening to dampen the games, but in the end the pomp and circumstances goes on.
Security, costs, and debate whether the games should be played at all, are typically part of the discussion.
But once the competition starts, attention moves to the games themselves.
This year, that has included everything from Canada’s terrific showing, to cupping, Russians being booed, and green swimming pools.
What it is, is another reason for the family to set up the TV trays and have dinner together watching the events?
After all, that is what the Olympics are all about.
Bringing people together.
That has been accomplished, at every level.
