Hamilton is on a “very preliminary” shortlist to become the home for the Canadian Open.
With Oakville’s Glen Abbey Golf Club transitioning into a housing development over the next 10 years, Golf Canada is looking for a new place to play the annual men’s golf tournament.
Golf Canada chief championship officer Bill Paul tells The Spectator they are looking at a dozen sites in the GTA, including those in Hamilton and Burlington.
Apart from hosting the national championship tournament, the site would also become the new home of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Museum.
The shortlist is expected to be pared down to a couple of contenders by December.
