Letters have gone out to 43 property owners along the proposed LRT corridor letting them know their land will be needed to build the controversial project.
Detailed design drawings will go public later this month and Metrolinx and the city want to ensure these notifications go out first.
Mayor Fred Eisenberger says it’s about ensuring “advance notice”.
The 43 letters going out this week represent properties that the mayor describes as “more immediately” affected.
There have been indications that pieces of up to another 200 properties may be needed later in the process.
Metrolinx stresses that it hopes to acquire properties on a willing-buyer willing-seller basis and would only resort to expropriation as a last resort.
