Ward 3 Councillor Matthew Green is looking to provide some “digital equity”.
He’ll be presenting a motion during Wednesday’s meeting of the General Issues Committee to review the feasibility of installing public WiFi in Gage Park.
Green says its about providing some “digital equity” for inner-city students who are issued iPads for school, but may not have internet access at home.
The pilot project is also inspired by the Pokemon Go craze which has dramatically increased use of Gage Park by young people.
It would be funded through Bell Mobility cell tower revenues rather than the tax base.
