The Ticats handed the Alouettes their fourth straight loss after beating Montreal 20-17 Friday night at Tim Hortons Field.
Montreal opened the scoring with a single when kicker Anthony Fera pushed a 33 yard field goal attempt wide right.
Hamilton’s next drive stalled at midfield and Brett Maher’s first punt of the game was blocked by Duron Carter who then collected the bouncing ball and returned it for a 46 yard touchdown and an 8-0 Montreal lead.
Fera added a punt single just a minute into the second quarter to make it 9-0.
Maher broke the shutout a couple of minutes later with a punt single of his own.
The Cats finally found the endzone when Zach Collaros threw an eight yard major to Luke Tasker, cutting Montreal’s lead to 9-8 with 4:21 to play in the first half.
Collaros threw his second interception of the half when Al’s linebacker Bear Woods stepped in front of a pass intended for Luke Tasker at the Montreal 10 yard line.
Newly inducted Canadian Football Hall of Famers Derrell “Mookie” Mitchell, Doug Brown, Rodney Harding, James West and Don McDonald will be honoured during a ceremony at halftime.
The Cats took their first lead of the game in the third quarter when Maher chipped in a 13 yard field goal and then added a 28 yarder to make it 14-9 for Hamilton.
Fera scored Montreal’s first points of the second half about two minutes into the fourth quarter when he nailed a 49 yard field goal to make it a two point game.
After Maher conceded a safety, Fera booted a 40 yard field goal to tie the game at 17.
But the Cats drove down the field in the final minute and won the game 20-17 on a Brett Maher 10 yard field goal.
6-and-6 Hamilton travels to Saskatchewan on Saturday September 24.
