Parents and kids from across the land are returning to the rinks for the other biggest ritual after Labour Day (not including back to school) that being back to hockey.
The return to the rink also solidifies the reality that the summer season has finally ended.
Sharpening skates, sizing up equipment, meeting new team mates all while you’re still in shorts.
Only in Canada do we show up for practice to frosted glass wearing a hoodie, and flip flops. (And that’s just the parents)
You only have to sit in the stands a couple of times before you realize you’re too old for that action.
As we try to stretch out the summer of the century that never seems to end, in the end, it will be the earth continuing to spin that reminds us winter is inevitable.
It’s a reminder hockey was put on earth to help Canadian get through a long cold winter and whether we like it or not, both are on the way.
