The city is out ahead of the long weekend with a safety reminder for those planning to check out any of Hamilton’s more than 100 waterfalls.
Residents and visitors are asked to stick to marked trails, respect the posted signage and check out the falls from viewing platforms, as they enjoy the warm temperatures and beautiful fall colours.
The reminders are in response to a cascade of rope rescues in recent weeks.
The spike in incidents has prompted the city’s fire department to consider a “user fee” for rescues which it notes involve a “lot of resources”.
They most commonly occur at Tews and Websters Falls, the Devil’s Punchbowl and Albion Falls.
