Jackson Square is losing one of its original tenants.
After more than 44 years, Denninger’s Foods of the World is closing its doors next month within the downtown mall.
The company’s CEO tells CBC News in Hamilton that it’s a business decision based on three factors.
Those include the expiry of their lease, the state of Jackson Square as a whole and the prospect of downtown Hamilton becoming a “construction zone” during LRT construction.
She adds that employees will be shifted to one of Denninger’s locations, such as its “main store” on King Street East, which will remain open even though it is also in the construction zone.
Denningers has been vocal on LRT, urging the city to build it on Main Street rather than King.
