If the Tiger-Cats want to have a first round playoff bye, they have to take care of business tonight.
Now, tonight’s clash against the visiting Edmonton Eskimos is not a must win game, but it’s certainly in the virtual must win category.
Here’s the deal.
Hamilton trails the East Division leading Ottawa Redblacks by one point heading into the last two weeks of the regular season.
And while the Cats host the Eskimos tonight and entertain the sad sacked Montreal Alouettes next week, Ottawa plays a home-and-home series against the vastly improved Winnipeg Blue Bombers… which is much tougher.
A Hamilton win tonight would vault the Black & Gold into 1st place in the East, putting pressure on Ottawa to get a win in the Peg tomorrow.
If the Ticats win and the Redblacks lose this week, the odds of winning the East are not in Ottawa’s favour.
I’m very interested to see how Zach Collaros fares tonight.
After missing the last two games with a concussion, will he be tentative or aggressive, and can Collaros out duel Edmonton’s Mike Reilly?
Remember, these two teams could face each other in a couple of weeks in the East semi… and what goes down tonight could set the stage for what will be a must win game in mid-November.
It’s time for the inconsistent Ticats to start ramping up their play in time for the post-season and tonight will be a good test.
We’ll talk about all of this on The 5th Quarter tonight on AM900 CHML, 900chml.com and the CHML App.
