In perhaps the most bizarre election in recent American history, I suppose that nothing should surprise us.
But, the actions of FBI Director James Comey late last week might be the most outrageous of all.
Comey announced on Friday that the FBI was going to investigate a new batch of emails that Comey stated ‘may or may not’ involve Hillary Clinton.
Right wing pundits jumped all over the announcement, claiming the FBI was re-opening the Clinton e mail probe, but that’s not what Comey said.
There are however, two critical questions that need to be answered.
Why did Comey make the announcement at all, since Justice Department policy is to never publicize any investigation until it’s completed.
More importantly though, in light of the fact that it has been confirmed that the ‘questionable’ e mails were not from Clinton’s private server, nor were the emails in question sent by Clinton or received by Clinton, why did Comey suggest that they may involve Clinton ?
It’s against the law for a government official to try to influence the outcome of a federal election and critics from the Democrats and Republicans are justifiably questioning Comey’s tactics .
Did Comey break his own department’s rules to try to influence the Presidential election ?
Well, if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck…….
