Public elementary schools in West Hamilton and Ancaster are next for accommodation review.
Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board trustees have approved a motion to examine the future of 14 schools in those areas.
An initial option identified for West Hamilton calls for expansion of Bennetto and Cathy Wever, improvements to Central, Earl Kitchener, Ryerson and Strathcona and the closure of Hess Street school.
In Ancaster, an early option is to close Fessenden and Queen’s Rangers while rebuilding C.H. Bray and renovating Rousseau and Ancaster Senior.
Board Chair Todd White says it’s an opportunity to attract funding from the Ministry of Education to renew their facilities and “create the best environments for students”.
White notes they were recently awarded 26 million dollars to revitalize schools in East Hamilton and Stoney Creek, as a result of accommodation proposals in those areas.
