Two men are facing charges following the attempted robbery of a home on James Street South.
Hamilton Police say two masked men gained access when the resident opened the door believing it was someone he knew.
The pair then tried to restrain the victim who got free and alerted others in the area.
As the suspects tried to flee they were confronted by citizens and are said to have displayed a firearm and an edged weapon believed to be a knife.
After a struggle the men were detained and held until police arrived.
33-year old Kevin Franks of Hamilton and 21 year old Dylan MacDonald face a series of charges including forcible confinement and robbery with intent to steal.
Both suspects are now before the courts to answer to these charges.
The two men as well as the victim and citizens involved were treated for minor injuries.
Police believes this was a targeted attack.
